Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has been called upon to conduct thorough investigation into its admission process after allegations of irregularities surfaced regarding the entry of a post-graduate student in the university’s programme.

In a petition addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, dated July 7, 2023, Alaku John urged the university to look into the circumstances under which one Kwanta Yakubu was granted admission. The petitioner copied Governor Abdullahi Sule, House of Assembly, police, DSS, and NYSC.

It alleged that Yakubu’s admission might have violated the established post-graduate requirements, implicating the university’s School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).

The petition alleged: “It was claimed that he possesses a National Certificate in Education (NCE), a certificate of attendance, and an SSCE result with only three credits. Moreover, doubts were raised about the authenticity of his diploma from Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, Benue State and the Higher National Diploma results, as the serial numbers appeared questionable.”

John expressed fears over the potential impact of such actions on the university’s integrity and credibility: “Granting admission to an individual with suspected falsified documents undermines trust among students and the broader community in the institution.

“The call for an immediate and thorough investigation is aimed at ensuring the university’s adherence to its admission protocols and upholding academic standards. There is the need for appropriate disciplinary action against any individuals found responsible for the breach.”

NSUK spokesperson, Abraham Ekpo, confirmed the receipt of the petition. However, he Daily Sun: “Further details regarding the actions to be taken would be provided later.”

Meanwhile in a telephone conversation with Yakubu, a commissioner-nominee, said: “I categorically deny every single accusation against me. These allegations are nothing but baseless lies concocted to discredit my integrity.

“I have dedicated my entire career to public service and my records speak for themselves. This blatant attempt to tarnish my name will not be tolerated.

“I am prepared to face any individual or group that wishes to engage in character assassination. The truth will prevail.”
