Falcons star dumps Sevilla after six years

Sevilla FC Femenino has announced the departure of 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup star Toni Payne after six years of service.

The Super Falcons star  joined the Spanish club in 2018 from Ajax and went on to score 24 goals in 139 appearances.

The former United States youth international featured Duke Women’s soccer team during her college days just before making the switch to Vrouwen Eredivisie giants Ajax.

She went on to make twenty-two appearances for the Dutch side before joining the Sevilla in 2018 on a one year contract, which was later extended.

During her time with the Rojiblancos, Payne rose to international recognition and switched her allegiance from the United States to Nigeria.

She is expected to be part of the Nigerian squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where they will face a challenging group stage against Spain, Japan, and Brazil.

The Super Falcons will begin their Olympic campaign against Brazil in Bordeaux, followed by matches against Spain and Japan in Nantes.

Payne’s expertise and leadership will be crucial in helping the team navigate this challenging group stage.

The versatile midfielder who is the elder sister of PSG loanee Nicole Payne, was part of the Super Falcons squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
