Nigeria’s U-20 Women national team, Falconets Sunday afternoon edged closer to qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Falconets piped Burundi 1-0 at Azam Stadium Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania courtesy of Janet Akekoromowei goal via penalty in the first half.

The second leg of the tie will return to familiar grounds of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday, January 20, 2024. The winner of the two-legged contest will secure a coveted spot at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, an event slated for Colombia.

The Falconets boast an impressive track record in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, qualifying for every edition.

Nigeria ever-present at the finals since the competition was launched in Canada in 2002, reached the quarter-finalists at the last edition in Costa Rica, and is much fancied to brush aside the Burundian challenge and pick another World Cup ticket.
