John Ogbe of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has emerged as the new national president of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) following a landslide victory in elections concluded in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Ogbe polled 62 votes to defeat his opponent, Dada Olowole of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), who got seven votes. The election took place during the union’s national congress held in Jos, the Plateau State capital, with voting extending from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

A total of 69 delegates participated in the electoral process, which saw the selection of leadership across multiple positions within the union. In other contested races, Olarenwaju Isaac emerged victorious as national financial secretary with 51 votes, while Zuberu Baba secured the position of national treasurer with 56 votes.

Gabriel Shofolahan was elected second national deputy president, garnering 54 votes, while Onwuzurike Leonard pulled 47 votes to become the union’s first vice president. Fadairo Babatunde secured 49 votes to claim the position of first national deputy president. In another closely contested race, Wuyed Saul Samuel emerged winner with 47 votes to become ATSSSAN’s first ex-officio.

Eight positions were filled without opposition. Victor Osemeilu will assume office as second national vice president after running unopposed. Aliyu Bello was elected unopposed as second national trustee, while Adeniyi Kehinde Joshua secured the position of first national trustee, also running unopposed. Garba Hussein was elected third national trustee without contest.

Auwal Musa takes up the role of second ex-officio, while Amina Peter secured the role of first national auditor, and Akinkunmi Oluseyi became second national auditor, both running unopposed. Agbayekhai Irene emerged as the new ATSSSAN national women leader, marking her election to lead women’s affairs within the union.
