Eya Esif, Global Secretary General of UTA, to receive Humanitarian Award in Abuja

The Global Secretary General of United Towns Agency for North South Cooperation (UTA), Ambassador (Dr.) Eya Esif, will be among the distinguished dignitaries that will be honoured by the UTA, Nigeria Chapter during its 2026 International Humanitarian Award and Lecture.

The prestigious event is scheduled to hold on August 20, 2026 in Abuja, as part of activities to commemorate the 2026 World International Humanitarian Day.

Ambassador Esif is being recognised for her outstanding leadership in international diplomacy, cooperation, and humanitarian advocacy across nations of the North and South.

As International Cooperation Executive, Ambassador Eya has played a pivotal role in strengthening partnership among cities, governments, civil societies and development agencies to deliver aid, promote peace, and advance sustainable development for vulnerable populations.

In a statement by the UTA-Nigeria Country President, Ambassador Princess Abigail Amalaha, the honour is in recognition of Ambassador Esif’s commitment to the core values of UTA: Solidarity, Cooperation, and Service to Humanity. “Dr. Eya Esif embodies the spirit of global solidarity that UTA represents. Her dedication to fostering North-South cooperation and her tireless work in advancing humanitarian diplomacy have made her a leader to watch on the world stage,” Amalaha stated.

The UTA International Humanitarian Award and Lecture is a high-level platform meant to recognise outstanding individuals and institutions making extraordinary contributions to humanitarian service in Nigeria and across Africa.

The event which will also feature a Lecture on, Breaking the Cycle: Achieving Lasting Solutions to Humanitarian Crises in Nigeria and Beyond; will also serve as a forum to unveil UTA-Social Centre, a community-based facility designed to provide vocational training, healthcare support and welfare services for vulnerable groups.

The event will be chaired by Rear Admiral Samuel Alade (Rtd.), former Commandant of the National Defence College and the Balogun of Akure Kingdom.

Dignitaries expected at the event include members of the diplomatic corps, federal and state government officials, representatives of UN agencies, traditional rulers, the private sector and civil society organizations.

The United Towns Agency for North South Cooperation (UTA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated to fostering solidarity, sustainable development, and humanitarian cooperation between cities and communities across the globe.
