From John Adams Minna
There was pandemonium in the ancient town of Zungeru, Niger State, in the early hours of yesterday, as an explosion reportedly rocked the Hydro Electric Dam situated in the area.
The explosion, which left the people of the town scampering for safety, occurred when the workers were yet to resume work for the day, and it was said to have damaged some of the installations in the dam.
It was, however, gathered that some workers, mostly security personnel, were injured in the incident, including one of the foreign engineers who was on routine check at the time of the explosion and have all been rushed to the Minna General Hospital.
The engineer, believed to be Chinese, was first admitted at the emergency ward of the hospital for treatment for burns in the head and hand. It was further gathered that because of the seriousness of his condition, he was being planned to be transferred to the IBB Specialist Hospital, also, in Minna, for proper medical attention.
The number of other workers injured as a result of the explosion was yet to be ascertained at the time of this report, but our source said they were many. The cause of the explosion was not known at the time of this report, but the incident caused a power outage in the areas where the dam supplies electricity. There were no official reactions and confirmation on the incident yet.
