Gunmen, Tuesday night, launched an attack with explosive devices on the facility housing 99.5 Wish FM and Atlantic Television Network, destroying their transformers and industrial generators.
The media platforms are owned by an ardent supporter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and House of Representatives member, Chinyere Igwe.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident and said at about 8.45pm on the fateful day, the state Command received information from Peter Anietie of 99.5 Wish FM/Atlantic Television Network, about the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, said Anietie informed them that some hoodlums threw an explosive device into the generator house and transformer area, which caused damage to generators and a 500kva transformer. The source told the police that the explosion also affected the transformer feeder panel and electronic appliances in both the radio and television stations. But no life was lost.
Iringe-Koko disclosed that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) had been deployed to the scene for swift and detailed investigation with a view to ascertaining the veracity of the information and to unravel what exactly caused the explosion.
The command had assured that if the incident was, indeed, orchestrated by anyone or group, the culprits would be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law. She, however, urged residents of the state to report suspicious movements and individuals to the command for prompt action.
“The command wishes to assure all residents of their safety, especially at this period. It will leave no stone unturned in providing quality security for all persons residing in or visiting the state.
