For residents of Uburu and neighbouring communities in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, this will be a December to remember. This is because a gas plant built by one of the illustrious sons of the area, Chief Austin Umahi, aka Ochiagha  Ndigbo, was inaugurated on December 18.

Several individuals and organizations have recently commended Umahi for his efforts in bringing development to the people, often focusing on education, employment and  empowerment.

Another illustrious son of Uburu community, Dr. Jude Umahi, commended the effort because of the expected multiplier effect on the local economy.

Dr. Jude Umahi said: “The people of Uburu and the surrounding communities will be celebrating Christmas 2025 in grand style. This is because, for the very first time in the history of the community, an ultramodern gas station will be opened to the general public, to satisfy their ever-yearning gas needs.

“The novelty powered by Austac Integrated Services is located in a serene environment, sandwiched by the renowned David Umahi Federal University of Health and University Teaching Hospital, Uburu.”

It was gathered that, in the spirit of the season, the management of the gas plant graciously filled the first 100 cylinders brought to the station for free.

“The managing director and CEO, Chief Austin Umahi, is a seasoned administrator, finance expert and oil and gas sector advisor. I’m optimistic that the gas station will provide optimum services to Uburu and other neighbouring communities, and stem long-distance travels in quest of gas and allied products.

“There is no doubt that the enterprise is a way of adding value to the community by way of corporate social responsibility (CSR), and generating employment within and outside its catchment area,” said Jude, who is resident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Others spoke in like manner, saying it will create employment and generally boost the local economy.
