Former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe is dead.

He was 72.

Born on March 22, 1952, Okupe would have been 73 in a fortnight.

Okupe was Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Close family sources disclosed that the doctor-cum-politician had taken ill weeks before his death.

His illness was suspected to be linked to cancer.

In 2023, Okupe was hospitalised with prostate cancer, which was first diagnosed 16 years prior, and he was flown to Israel for medical attention.
