Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Her resignation was conveyed in a letter dated March 30, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman, PDP Ward 1, Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Akinjide said quitting the party was a “difficult decision” as she had been a member since 2001, but emphasised her decision followed personal reflection.

She said, “I hereby formally give you notice of my resignation as a member of the PDP, effective immediately.

“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001.

“I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party and for the experience and relationships built during my time as a member of the party.”

Akinjide expressed gratitude for the platform afforded her by the PDP for political office and engagement and wished the party success in the future.

The daughter of late legal luminary, Richard Akinjide, SAN, was appointed as FCT Minister by then President Goodluck Jonathan in July 2011.

She also briefly served as the Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.

Akinjide’s next political move remains uncertain, although there are strong indications she could join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
