From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

Secondary school mates of former Chief of Army Staff, late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Friday, donated 11,000 exercise books to their Alma mater, St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, for posthumous birthday of the late Army chief.

They said Lagbaja, who turned 57, had contributed immensely to the development of the school, his town and the country in general, before his demise.

The Principal of the school, Ajayi Toyin John, who was 1984 set with late Lagbaja, described him as a lover of education. He narrated how Lagbaja donated education materials, library and stadium to the school.

He explained that the exercise book was anchored by Real Care Humanity Foundation, funded by Alhaji Jinadu Gazali. He said: “We are celebrating Taoreed Lagbaja who turns 57 years today. Although he is dead, but we are remembering him. We are members of the 84 set and for all the good deeds he had done when he was alive in St. Charles Grammar School.

“The 84 set is celebrating him and we have provided 11,000 exercise books to be distributed to the students. It was anchored by one of us, Alhaji Jinadu Gazali of 84 set.

“Lagbaja was one of the quietest students in our set. It was a surprise when we heard that he had joined the military.

“But he was a gallant military man who had done so well for the country, for his town and for the school. He gave us one of the best e-library and one of the best stadia. He fenced the school,” John stated.
