An FCT High Court sitting in Maitama has ordered the remand of former Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Chairman, Danladi Umar, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.

Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge bordering on conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as CCT chairman. He pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Prosecuting counsel, Christopher Mshelia, asked the court to fix a date for trial and urged that the defendant be remanded at the correctional centre pending further proceedings.

Counsel to Umar informed the court that a bail application had already been filed on his client’s behalf and urged the court to consider it.

The prosecution objected, saying it had only just been served with the application and needed time to respond.

Justice Kekemeke adjourned the matter until 15 July for the hearing of the bail application.
