Victor Osimhen

… ‘The club over-dependent on Nigerian’

Former Besiktas and Turkey U-21 midfielder, Sinan Engin mentioned that Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen is what makes Galatasaray appear extraordinary.

The 26-year-old scored a brace for Nigeria in their 4-1 win over Gabon in the World Cup play-offs, but was taken off at half-time against DR Congo due to a hamstring injury.

The ex-Napoli man is set to miss the next three weeks of action for his club side, but should be back just in time for the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco.

Goals from Mauro Icardi, Baris Asper Yilmaz and Ilkay Gundogan sealed a narrow win for Okan Buruk’s side, although both sides finished the game with ten men. After the game, Engin, who now works as a pundit, revealed that the Turkish Super Lig table-toppers looked less threatening without their star striker.  “The Galatasaray team was not attractive to watch,” the 61-year-old said in quotes revealed by Habersarikirmizi.

“Without Osimhen, Galatasaray looks like a very normal team. Look at the Liverpool and Bodo games. In the first half, Galatasaray fans were pessimistic. “Osimhen must play for Galatasaray. Today, if Osimhen should do what Rafa Silva did, Galatasaray would lose the championship,” Egnin concluded. The 2023 CAF Player of the Year is on the cusp of history with the Nigerian National team, as he’s just six goals off breaking Rashidi Yekini’s record.
