Euro 2024: Bellingham knocks Trent-Arnold’s critics

By John Ogunsemore

England forward Jude Bellingham slammed critics of teammate Alexander Trent-Arnold after the Three Lions’ victory against Serbia at Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate’s side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Dragan Stojković’s side at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia.

For the game, full-back Trent-Arnold was deployed as a central midfielder and initially impressed before committing a string of errors as the game wore on.

The 25-year-old was replaced by Conor Gallagher in the 69th minute and his contributions attracted criticism from fans.

Bellingham, who scored England’s sole goal, slammed Trent-Arnold’s critics, insisting the Liverpool defender has been under-appreciated.

“He makes it so easy for me because he can control the game so well defensively in that position.

“I know people talk a lot of rubbish but he’s so aggressive with that back-to-goal pressure and it really helped me as well because it meant I got a breather when he went out.

“I think we understand each other well with the ball, he wants to play positive all the time, he wants to play forward all the time,” he told ITV Sport.
