Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has expressed condolences to writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her family following the death of their son, describing the loss as profound and unimaginable.

In a statement issued by its management, the hospital said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended its sympathy to the parents and their wider family, noting that the loss of a child is beyond words.

The hospital also said it was necessary to correct what it described as inaccurate reports currently circulating about the incident.

According to Euracare, it is a specialist centre for complex medical care, staffed by an internationally trained clinical team. The patient, who was said to be critically ill, was referred to the hospital for specific diagnostic procedures after receiving treatment at two paediatric facilities.

The hospital stated that upon arrival, its medical team immediately commenced care in line with established clinical protocols and internationally recognised medical standards, including the use of sedation where clinically required.

It added that throughout the patient’s care, Euracare worked in collaboration with external medical teams recommended by the family and ensured that all necessary clinical support was provided. However, despite these efforts, the child died less than 24 hours after being admitted.

Euracare said it has initiated a comprehensive internal review in line with its clinical governance framework and best practice standards, and will cooperate fully with all relevant regulatory and professional processes.

The hospital also acknowledged the family’s grief and said it remains committed to supporting them in any way possible during what it described as a devastating time.

“As medical professionals, we feel the weight of this loss deeply. Our priority remains compassion, patient safety and the responsible handling of this matter, while respecting the family’s privacy and allowing due process to take its course,” the hospital said.
