Etsu Karu celebrates 20 years on throne, calls for peace and unity

Lawmakers conferred with chieftaincy titles

The Etsu Karu and Chairman of the Karu Traditional Council in Nasarawa State, Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba, has marked 20 years on the throne, vowing to continue promoting peace and unity in the state and Nigeria.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration in Karu yesterday, the monarch said, “For two decades, I have had the privilege of serving the Karu people as a leader, and together, we have achieved great things. Our journey has been guided by a commitment to fostering peace and unity amongst ourselves.”

The Etsu Karu expressed gratitude to his people for their support and loyalty, saying, “Our gathering here today is to celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of Karu Chiefdom. This occasion provides us with the opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate the present, and look forward with hope and faith.”

He appreciated the role played by the Chiefdom, past administrations, and the current administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule in ensuring peace and unity in the state.

The monarch also appealed to Nigerians to support the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, noting that the government would continue to foster environmental growth in Nigeria.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, and other lawmakers who were conferred with chieftaincy titles called for unity of purpose amongst Nigerians.

They recognised the role of traditional rulers in nation-building and promised to strengthen the institutional framework of traditional rulers to guarantee their role as custodians of culture, peace, unity, and traditions.

The event drew over 21 traditional rulers from across the country and representatives of 27 ethnic groups from Plateau, Borno, Benue, Kaduna, Niger, and Akwa Ibom states.

Guests at the event included Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State Assembly, Danladi Jatau; former FCT Minister, Lt General Jeremiah T. Useni (rtd); Professor Jerry Gana; and others.

The celebration was a historic and epoch-making event that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Karu people and the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace and unity in Nigeria.
