Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded release of the 38 abducted worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area, but insisted the development did not erase what it called persistent security lapses in the state.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP commended security agencies and local vigilantes for their efforts, but faulted the state government for the silence on details of the rescue operation.

The opposition party is, however, demanding clarification on whether any of the attackers was arrested or neutralised, whether ransom was paid, the condition of the victims and what new measures have been introduced to prevent similar incidents.

The PDP also criticised the Kwara First Lady, Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, for allegedly describing the incident as an attempted attack, noting that the release of 38 abductees contradicts her comment.

The party further faulted Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s statement crediting the success of the rescue to President Bola Tinubu, saying it raises concerns about the capacity of the state government to handle security matters.

The PDP insisted that the return of the victims, though a relief, is not a victory for the state until the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted, and a comprehensive security strategy put in place to forestall future attacks.
