Erondu wins APC Abia South primary

The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has emerged victorious at the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Abia South at the weekend.

The results were announced at the APC Abia South Primary Election Collation Centre in Aba, yesterday, by the collation officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kalu Agbaeze.

According to the collated results, Erondu swept all six LGAs to defeat his closest rivals, Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, Prince Paul Ikonne and Blessing Nwagba.

A breakdown of the results showed that in Aba North LGA, Erondu polled 1,840 votes, while Anyim scored 1,071 votes, Ikonne secured 1,504 votes and Nwagba got 1,447 votes.

In Aba South LGA, Erondu recorded 2,629 votes, defeating Anyim who polled 1,085 votes, Ikonne with 1,219 votes and Nwagba with 1,495 votes.

At Obingwa LGA, Erondu maintained the lead with 3,612 votes, while Anyim secured 504 votes, Ikonne got 41 votes and Nwagba polled 27 votes.

In Ukwa East LGA, Erondu garnered 1,836 votes, ahead of Anyim’s 646 votes, Ikonne’s 329 votes and Nwagba’s 437 votes.

Results from Ukwa West LGA showed Erondu polling 3,675 votes, while Anyim scored 2,119 votes, Ikonne secured 716 votes and Nwagba got 836 votes.

In Ugwunagbo LGA, Erondu further consolidated his lead with 3,022 votes, while Anyim polled 285 votes, Ikonne got 290 votes and Nwagba secured 214 votes.

At the end of the exercise, Erondu won with 16,640 votes.

Anyim scored 5,206 votes, Ikonne polled 4,099 votes, while Nwagba secured 4,456 votes.

Prof. Agbaeze subsequently declared Erondu winner of the APC Abia South primary election.

Meanwhile, Erondu has expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates and supporters across the district for the overwhelming support that led to his victory in the exercise.

Speaking shortly after he was declared the winner, the former chairman of Obingwa LGA, described the outcome of the election as a collective victory for the party and the people of Abia South.

The Uhie-born legislator thanked God and appreciated APC stakeholders, youths, women and party faithful for the confidence reposed in him through their massive votes.

He also commended his fellow aspirants, Dr Anyim, Prince Ikonne, and Nwagba, for participating in the democratic process, calling for unity among party members ahead of the main election.

He assured party members of his commitment to effective representation, inclusive leadership and the development of Abia South.

He further pledged to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the APC and ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming senatorial election.

Elder Godwin Nnah and Maduka Akpulonu, congratulated the lawmaker, describing his emergence as well-deserved.

The duo stated that Erondu victory reflected his growing acceptance across Abia South, noting that he is widely regarded as a grassroots politician who genuinely loves and identifies with his people. They further expressed confidence in his ability to provide quality representation and strengthen the fortunes of the APC in the district ahead of the general election.
