Xabi Alonso has been appointed as Chelsea manager with the Premier League side looking to turn their fortunes around following a disappointing season.
Speaking in a statement on Sunday, Chelsea announced Alonso’s appointment, revealing that the Spaniard signed a four-year deal with the Blues.
The development comes after Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday at the FA Cup final.
“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager of the men’s team.

“The Spaniard will begin his role on July 1, 2026, having agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge,” Chelsea said in a statement.
Alonso faces an uphill battle as Chelsea have gone eight seasons without a domestic trophy. They occupy ninth position in the Premier League with two games in hand.
Alonso captured global attention as a manager when he led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten German league and cup double in the 2023/24 season.
His time with Spanish giants Real Madrid was brief as he departed the club in January after a seven-month spell.
