Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has said that timing was a key factor in his decision to join the Blues instead of Liverpool.
Alonso spent five seasons at Liverpool between 2004 and 2009.
Chelsea appointed him as their permanent manager in May this year.
Just two weeks later, Liverpool parted ways with Arne Slot and named Andoni Iraola as his successor.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Alonso explained why he chose to take charge of Chelsea instead of returning to Liverpool.
“Well, it is about timings,” Alonso said.
“I am here today on my first day at Stamford Bridge, talking to you.
“I am looking forward to this challenge, a big challenge, and Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs and I am looking forward to having success here.”
