Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal’s next Premier League match against Bournemouth might be important in the title battle.

If the Gunners do not beat the Cherries on Saturday, Ferdinand believes it may be “goodnight” for the club.

Mikel Arteta’s side has been eliminated from two competitions in the last two weeks, losing to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final and to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Arsenal, however, remain in a position to win its first league trophy since 2004 and lift the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

They boast a nine-point lead over Manchester City going into the weekend.

“They’ve got Bournemouth at the weekend, and that’s a tough game, if you don’t win that game… wow,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.

“And then you’ve got an in-form Man City the week after? It could be goodnight.”
