Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has revealed that the decision to join the Premier League giants was an “easy decision”, despite the turbulent circumstances surrounding his departure from Newcastle United.
The Sweden international joined Liverpool on deadline day in September 2025 for a British-record £125 million transfer fee, with the club’s stature, ambition and determination to sign him playing a major role in his decision.
“Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear,” Isak told BBC Sport’s The Football Interview on Friday.
“The club’s ambition and the club’s will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it,” he added.
Isak’s move came after a difficult spell at Newcastle, where he had been training away from the first team. The striker had also claimed that promises made to him by the club had been broken.
His first season at Anfield was subsequently disrupted by injury, with Isak making 22 appearances and playing 1,032 minutes before a leg break sidelined him from December until April. He scored three Premier League goals during the campaign.
Despite the setback, Isak said he has never regretted moving to Liverpool when asked whether he had questioned his decision.
“No, never. I would never think like that,” he said.
“The leg break was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know,” Isak said. “But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.”
The 26-year-old has started the new campaign strongly, already matching his previous Premier League tally of three goals after just four matches, while he also represented Sweden at the World Cup during the summer.
