Fulham have completed the signing of highly rated Spanish forward Gonzalo García from Real Madrid on a five-year contract, strengthening their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 22-year-old joins the Cottagers for an undisclosed fee after signing a deal that will keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2031, with the club retaining the option of a further 12 months.
Speaking after completing the move, García expressed his delight at beginning a new chapter in England.
“I’m very grateful, very happy to be here,” the striker said.
He added, “I have to thank the board and Arbeloa for the trust they’ve put in me, and I’m very, very excited to start.”
Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan described the Spaniard as one of the brightest young forwards in European football and backed him to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Gonzalo García to Fulham! Gonzalo is a very talented young striker, and he is excited to come to Fulham and play in the Premier League,” Khan said.
He added, “We all believe that Gonzalo will be a tremendous addition to the squad and will prove to be an excellent player for the Club under Álvaro’s leadership!”
Born in Madrid, García joined Real Madrid’s academy at the age of 10 before spending one season with Mallorca’s youth setup and returning to Los Blancos in 2019.
His development accelerated under former Real Madrid defender Álvaro Arbeloa, who guided him through the club’s youth ranks.
During the 2023/24 campaign, García scored 35 goals to inspire Real Madrid’s Under-19 side to a historic treble, establishing himself as one of Spain’s most promising young attackers.
He followed that breakthrough with another prolific season for Castilla, producing 25 goals and four assists in 36 appearances, despite featuring regularly across the front line.
García also marked his senior breakthrough with a dramatic winning goal against Leganés in the Copa del Rey before further enhancing his reputation at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Spanish forward finished as the tournament’s Golden Boot winner after scoring four goals and providing one assist, despite Real Madrid’s semi-final exit.
His performances prompted then-manager Xabi Alonso to compare his style and movement to club legend Raúl.
Last season, García firmly established himself in Real Madrid’s first-team squad, contributing eight goals and three assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
One of his standout displays came in a commanding 5-1 victory over Real Betis, where he scored a perfect hat-trick with a header, a chest-and-volley finish and a deft flick.
His impressive form also earned him a senior Spain debut in a World Cup warm-up fixture after previously scoring six goals in seven appearances for Spain’s Under-21 side.
García will wear the number seven shirt at Fulham as he begins his first experience outside Spanish football, with the Premier League club hoping his goalscoring pedigree will translate into success in England.
