Manchester United ended their Premier League campaign on a strong note with a commanding 3-0 victory over Brighton, as captain Bruno Fernandes set a new assist record in Michael Carrick’s first game as permanent manager.

Fernandes delivered another influential performance, registering a goal and an assist to guide United to victory at the Amex Stadium. His setup for Patrick Dorgu’s opener took his season tally to 21 assists, moving him ahead of former record holders Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry in Premier League history.

Brighton entered the final day chasing a Europa League place, with qualification for all three European competitions still possible. However, United’s clinical display shattered those ambitions, leaving the hosts to settle for a UEFA Conference League spot after slipping to eighth position behind Sunderland.

United seized control through Dorgu before Bryan Mbeumo doubled the visitors’ advantage late in the first half. Fernandes then crowned his outing with a goal early in the second period, adding to celebrations after being named Premier League Player of the Season.

Brighton struggled to respond, offering little attacking threat as their season ended on a disappointing note before their home supporters.

For Carrick, the result marked an ideal start to life as Manchester United’s substantive manager. The former midfielder has overseen a remarkable turnaround, recording 12 league wins from 17 matches after taking charge following Ruben Amorim’s troubled spell.

With Champions League football secured, Carrick is now expected to shift attention to strengthening his squad ahead of next season’s European campaign.
