Chelsea have completed the signing of Spanish defender Pep Chavarria from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.
The 28-year-old has signed a contract with Chelsea until 2031 and will join his new team-mates at Cobham ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Chavarria expressed his excitement after completing the move, describing the transfer as a dream opportunity with one of the world’s biggest clubs.
“I’m so excited to get started,” Chavarria said. “This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
He added: “It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.”
The left-back began his career with hometown club UE Figueres in Spain’s fourth tier before moving to UE Olot in 2018, where he quickly established himself as a regular starter.
After making 52 appearances for Olot, Chavarria joined Real Zaragoza in August 2020 and made his professional debut the following month in a 2-2 draw against Las Palmas.
He later earned a move to La Liga with Rayo Vallecano in August 2022 and became an established member of the club’s squad over the following four seasons.
Chavarria made 44 appearances last season as Rayo reached the UEFA Conference League final, where they lost narrowly to Crystal Palace.
Chelsea said his arrival follows a period in which he helped Rayo record consecutive eighth-place finishes in La Liga and reach a European final.
Chavarria also paid tribute to his family for their support throughout his career, saying: “There are a lot of people who have helped me get to this moment and I have to thank my family. They have always supported me and today is only possible because of them.”
