Aston Villa have completed the signing of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea on a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to make the move permanent.
The agreement includes an appearance-related clause that will trigger a permanent transfer worth about £43 million, with Villa manager Unai Emery playing a key role in securing the 22-year-old’s arrival.
Villa had previously attempted to sign Garnacho before his move from Manchester United to Chelsea last summer but were unable to match the £40 million package the London club paid for the winger.
After an underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea made Garnacho available for transfer, allowing Villa to revive their long-standing interest and offer him an opportunity to rebuild his career under Emery.
Negotiations gathered pace following Morgan Rogers’ record-breaking £117 million transfer from Villa to Chelsea earlier this summer, creating room for Emery to strengthen his attacking options.
Garnacho becomes Villa’s third signing of the transfer window after the arrivals of Johan Manzambi in a £52 million deal and João Gomes for £35 million.
The Argentina international burst into Manchester United’s first team in 2022 and established himself as one of the club’s brightest young talents, registering 16 goal contributions across 55 appearances during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
Although he featured regularly in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign, Garnacho opted for a move to Chelsea in search of a fresh challenge. However, injuries, managerial changes and a disrupted pre-season limited his opportunities, bringing his spell at Stamford Bridge to an early end.
Villa believe the winger’s pace, direct style and attacking quality will strengthen Emery’s squad as the club prepares for the new Premier League season, with the Spaniard confident he can help Garnacho rediscover the form that made him one of England’s most promising young forwards.
