Arsenal moved a step closer to winning the Premier League title after grinding out a 1-0 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

A first-half goal from Kai Havertz handed Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial win, extending their lead at the top of the table and increasing the pressure on title rivals Manchester City.

Havertz delivered the decisive moment in the 37th minute, rising above the Burnley defence to power home a header from Bukayo Saka’s well-delivered corner.

The Gunners controlled large spells of the contest but were forced to work hard against a disciplined Burnley side that remained dangerous throughout the encounter.

Burnley pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, creating nervy moments for the home side, but Arsenal’s defence held firm to secure a valuable clean sheet and all three points.

Arsenal also survived a second-half scare when Havertz escaped further punishment after a strong challenge that underwent review, with match officials sticking with a yellow card.

Midfielder Declan Rice produced another commanding performance, dictating play in midfield and helping Arsenal maintain control during key moments of the match.

The result leaves Arsenal within touching distance of the Premier League crown. Arteta’s men could secure the title if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth or if they complete the job themselves in their final league fixture against Crystal Palace.

For Burnley, the defeat deepens their relegation concerns despite another spirited display against one of the division’s strongest sides.

With the season nearing its conclusion, Arsenal’s latest victory underlined their growing composure in high-pressure matches as the title race approaches its decisive finish.
