Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Saturday, taking advantage of Manchester City’s defeat to Aston Villa to move level on points with the league leaders.
The Gunners delivered a solid performance at the Emirates Stadium, with goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães securing all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal took the lead in the seventh minute when Konsa reacted quickest inside the penalty area to convert from close range following a corner kick.
Everton attempted to respond but struggled to create clear-cut chances as Arsenal maintained control of the contest.
The hosts continued to threaten, with Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke missing opportunities to extend their advantage before the break.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several saves to keep his side in the game, while Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya also produced an important stop to deny Thierno Barry an equaliser after a defensive error.
Arsenal eventually doubled their lead in the 67th minute when Gabriel rose highest at the far post to head home Ben White’s cross.
The Brazilian defender marked his 200th Premier League appearance for Arsenal with the goal, putting the hosts firmly in control.
Everton struggled to mount a comeback in the closing stages, allowing Arsenal to see out the match and claim a clean sheet.
The victory moves Arsenal level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table following City’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa earlier on Saturday.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to their next fixtures as they continue their push for the Premier League title.
