Leaders and stakeholders in Enugu West Senatorial Zone have finalised plans to hold an endorsement rally in support of Governor Peter Mbah ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The rally is slated for Saturday, 18 April 2026, at the Awgu Local Government Field.

Speaking during a press conference in Enugu on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Charles Egumgbe, alongside Senator Ben-Collins Ndu, who are co-chairmen of the organising committee, said the event would bring together people from across political parties and communities in the zone.

Egumgbe said the decision to endorse the governor reflects a shared position among the people of Enugu West, cutting across party lines.

“When we talk about Enugu West, it is not about APC or PDP. It involves all those indigenous people and personalities of Enugu West extraction who will be called upon to endorse our dear governor for a second term. The reasons are clear. For the first time, without trying to be too political, we have seen a government that has progress and has plans,” he said.

He described the administration as one that is deliberate and forward-thinking, not driven by chance.

“This is not an accidental government. It has its plans. It is very cerebral, and it has depth. If you watch closely, you will see the depth of knowledge and planning it applies to every project it undertakes. In just a few years in office, it has touched all facets of development,” Egumgbe added.

According to him, the impact of governance can be felt across the state.

“If you look at infrastructure, education, health, transportation and the economy, you will see that this government has moved into all these areas. You can see activities of governance in every community, in every part of the state,” he said.

On education, he stressed that the focus is on long-term outcomes rather than just physical structures.

“I am not talking about Smart Schools in terms of structures; the structure is not the issue, but the intended result. In the next few years, our children will be able to compete effectively with those in developed countries. That is the plan of this government,” he explained.

He also pointed to improvements in the aviation sector, saying they would make travel easier for residents.

“Today, you now have an Enugu-based airline. Before now, people had to go to Lagos or Abuja, pay hotel bills and spend days before completing their journey. But very soon, our people will travel directly to international destinations from Enugu. All these economic challenges will be averted,” he said.

Egumgbe maintained that the governor has shown enough capacity to earn another term.

“Considering what he has done within a short period, moving across communities and bringing development to different wards and villages, he is eminently qualified for a second tenure,” he said.

He also reaffirmed the position of Enugu West on the state’s zoning arrangement.

“We have a zoning arrangement in this state, and we are saying: Your Excellency, go ahead and run your second tenure, and at the completion of your tenure, hand over to Enugu West. That is our position,” he stated.

On his part, Senator Ben-Collins Ndu reaffirmed the zone’s full backing for the governor while restating its expectation under the zoning arrangement.

“We are going to give him one hundred percent support. After his tenure, it will come to Enugu West. That is why we are fully behind him,” he added.
