From Magnus Eze, Enugu
House of Representatives member for Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, Chimaobi Atu, has vowed to judiciously monitor the construction of road projects in his constituency to ensure that contractors complied with the specified designs.
The lawmaker stated that he would not hesitate to drag any contractor before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over shoddy jobs.
Atu said though reputable contractors do not compromise standards, he would ensure that no space was given for residents to complain about low quality of projects being executed in his constituency.
He made the pledge at the weekend while inaugurating the construction of Ayo Station-Ndiagu-Obeagu Ugwuaji link road (phase one) in Enugu South Local Government Area.
He posited that the current insecurity in parts of the country could best be resolved by empowering the youths with needed infrastructure and services, stating that peace is a panacea for any development.
He urged the community to help the contractor succeed in the execution of the project, stating that he has confidence that the firm would not compromise standard in the road construction.
“My people deserve the best; I will ensure that they get the best. I will oversight the project to ensure that the Federal Government’s name is not brought to opprobrium. I seek a good name and I don’t have any other option than that.
“This road will boost the economy of the residents and it will serve the people well. I give credit to our political leader, Mr Peter Obi, for his ideology of moving from consumption to production. I also salute President Bola Tinubu for signing into law the South East Development Commission Bill,” Atu said.
Traditional ruler of Ugwuaji Community, Igwe Nwobodo Onyia said that Atu was building a society of tomorrow, stressing that history would be kind to him.
“Politicians of the past preferred building themselves, not minding the people, but Atu builds the society. Any young man, who wants to be great should forget about greatness, just offer yourself to serve people,” the monarch counselled.
