Enugu: Police rescue 7 kidnapped travellers, arrest 4 suspects

The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested four suspected kidnappers and rescued seven victims in Enugu State. Enugu Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this on Friday also said that a manhunt had been launched for the other members of the gang.

He said that the Command responded upon receipt of the report of the alleged abduction of some travellers along Ette in Igbo-Eze North Local Government, a border community between Enugu and Kogi States, and mobilized a joint police team to the scene and rescued seven victims, and also arrested four suspects.

Ndukwe said also that the manhunt of the escaping hoodlums is ongoing, assuring that further developments will be communicated.  Also, Hon Ejike Itodo, the Council Chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA condemned the abduction of passengers and said that the council was collaborating with security agencies to ensure that the remaining victims were rescued unhurt. 

An 18-seater commercial bus fully loaded with passengers was travelling from Abuja to Enugu on Wednesday evening, when some suspected kidnappers forcefully stopped the bus along Ette–Umuopu Enugu-Ezike road in Igbo Eze North LGA and abducted all the occupants of the bus, including the driver.
