The State Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, Dr Sebastine Okafor, has accused the party’s former candidate for Enugu West Senatorial District, Uche Eneh, of emerging through an undemocratic process, questioning his moral right to lecture others on democracy.

Okafor was reacting to Eneh’s comments following Wednesday’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Enugu, which affected his position as the party’s senatorial candidate.

He described Eneh as an electoral usurper, insisting that his emergence was not backed by a legitimate primary election.

The NDC secretary said it was contradictory for someone whose emergence was allegedly based on an undemocratic process to assume the role of defending democratic principles.

He called on party leaders to close ranks and address internal divisions ahead of the 2031 general elections, warning that the party’s failure to learn from its present crisis could cost more of its candidates their seats in the 2027 elections.

According to him, administrative lapses, political intrigues and alleged irregularities in the party’s primary election process had already undermined its electoral chances in Enugu State.

Okafor also advised Eneh against appealing the court judgment, describing such a move as a waste of resources, given what he called the questionable foundation of his emergence as a candidate.

He further argued that no amount of political grandstanding or public statements could turn an undemocratic selection into a legitimate election.

Okafor also commended Ugochi Ohajekwe for her courage and perseverance in pursuing justice, saying her determination had earned her a place in the democratic history of Enugu State.

He said the party must learn from the crisis and resist personal ambitions, political opportunism and internal sabotage capable of further weakening its structure.

According to him, democracy must be reflected in transparent processes, respect for electoral rules and obedience to the rule of law, rather than being used as a convenient political slogan.
