The newly elected chairmen of the local government areas in Enugu North Senatorial District have pledged to prioritise effective service delivery and responsive governance, following their victories in Saturday’s council elections in Enugu State.
The chairmen-elect, who emerged on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also thanked Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, and the people of the Senatorial District for their support, confidence and trust.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner of the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area election, the Chairman-elect, Chris Onyekachi Simon, said the massive voter turnout was a clear indication of the growing acceptance and support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.
He thanked Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the people of his local government area for their massive support, stating that he would provide quality service to repay their trust.
He further stated that he would ensure that peace returned to all the communities in his local government area.
“I will bring the people together and unite them so that we can take the task of developing Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area collectively,” he said.
At Nsukka Local Government Area, the Chairman-elect, Engr. Chinedu Asogwa, who secured re-election for a second term, pledged to consolidate the development initiatives of his first tenure and deepen service delivery to the people.
Asogwa said the impressive voter turnout during the election reflected the strong confidence and goodwill the people of the council area continued to have in his leadership.
“I promise to serve my people with renewed commitment and to equally key into the administrative policies of Governor Peter Mbah, our innovative Governor, to bring good governance to my people. The Governor has placed Enugu on the global map through his good governance. A few days ago, Enugu Air commenced international flights by landing in Douala, Cameroon, and by December, Enugu Air will be landing in the United Kingdom. Whatever I have done so far as the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area were as a result of the partnership and support of the Governor of Enugu State,” he said.
Similarly, the Udenu Local Government Area Chairman-elect, Dr Innocent Ezeoha, thanked the people for their support, noting that it was the first time in the history of the council area that a sole candidate emerged across all political parties.
Ezeoha pledged to bring the disruptive innovation agenda of the Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, to bear on his administration, assuring residents of effective service delivery and the dividends of democracy throughout his tenure.
Equally, the member representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Dennis Agbo, who also addressed journalists at his Essodo Ward in Uda, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving the South East favourable consideration in his government.
He stated that due to viable economic reforms of President Tinubu’s administration, state governors and local government chairmen are now embarking on gigantic projects to drive home the dividends of democracy to the people.
Agbo, who is equally the candidate of the APC for the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, further added that the acceptance of the party in Enugu State would make the forthcoming general elections a smooth ride for the APC.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Uchenna Ogalla, thanked the people for the opportunity to serve, attributing the APC’s victory in the local government election to sustained grassroots mobilisation and vigorous campaigning by the party.
Ogalla also commended the Enugu State Governor for the completed and ongoing development projects across the electoral wards in the local government area, describing Governor Peter Mbah as “God-sent” to the people of the state.
