Enugu State First Lady, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, has extended a humanitarian gesture to Mrs. Gertrude Anulika Eloke, popularly known as Mama Wetuolu Chukwu Obi, from Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti LGA, following an emotional experience at her husband’s recent Ozo title-taking ceremony.

Mrs Eloke reportedly broke down in tears after being allegedly excluded by her stepchildren from the recognition and honour accorded to her co-wife during the traditional ceremony.

The incident has renewed attention to the emotional trauma and social stigma she has endured over her inability to have children.

Moved by her plight, the First Lady, through her humanitarian organisation, Custos Care Foundation, reached out to the woman with gifts and words of encouragement, reaffirming her commitment to promoting women’s dignity, inclusion, and welfare.

The intervention included food items, wrappers for making beautiful outfits, and a cash gift to support her and bring some relief and happiness.

The First Lady said the gesture was intended to reassure Mrs Eloke that her worth as a woman was not determined by her ability to have biological children, stressing that love, compassion, and human impact went beyond blood relationships.

She emphasised that no woman should be subjected to humiliation, discrimination, or emotional abuse because of her personal circumstances, adding that every woman deserves dignity, recognition, love, and respect.

In a post shared on her Facebook page on Friday, the first lady wrote: “No woman should ever be made to feel less-than because of her circumstances. Every woman deserves honour, dignity, and respect.

The First Lady reaffirmed that the Custos Care Foundation would continue to advocate for the rights and dignity of vulnerable women, amplify the voices of the voiceless, and support campaigns against gender-based violence.
