Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has ordered a comprehensive deployment of police personnel and resources to ensure safe, peaceful and hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations across the state.

The directive, according to a statement  by Enugu state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, is in line with the nationwide security strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and is aimed at strengthening proactive policing before, during and after the festive season.

CP Giwa said the deployment would cover operational, intelligence, investigative and traffic units, with a focus on protecting lives and property and maintaining public order.

“All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Tactical, Operational and Traffic Units have been directed to intensify crime-prevention patrols, visibility policing and traffic control along major roads, streets and places of public convergence,” he said.

He added that police formations across the state have also been tasked to carry out intelligence-led operations and raid identified criminal hideouts within their areas of responsibility.

The Commissioner further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to personally supervise the Yuletide security arrangements and ensure that officers deployed are “firm, courteous and professional” in the discharge of their duties.

CP Giwa assured residents and visitors of strong collaboration between the Police and other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and memorable festive period in Enugu State.

While wishing the people of the state a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2026, the Police boss urged residents to celebrate responsibly, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities.
