Enugu CP orders inquiry into alleged sexual assault of female detainee, 17, by ASP

 (ASP) Vincent Oke, serving at the Awgu Division of the Enugu State Police Command has landed in trouble as the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered that he be investigated over his alleged sexual assault of a female detainee.

Ammani who handed the order to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (State CIID), assured the family of the victim and the public that justice would be duly served.

 In statement by the state Police Public

 Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe (DSP), the CP ordered the DCP, State CIID “to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the report alleging that one Vincent Oke, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), serving in Awgu Police Division of the Command, sexually assaulted a 17-year old female detainee, (name withheld) on 18/03/2022.

“The Commissioner, while further directing that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time, has assured that the case would be given the deserved attention, and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, would be appropriately sanctioned.”

The CP’s order, Sunday Sun, gathered followed a petition by the father of the victim, Mr. Godwin Utobo, to the Commissioner accusing ASP Oke of sexually assaulting his daughter and also extorting N114,000 from the family.

In the petition which was also sent to the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL), Utobo who is a native of Afam Agunese Mmalu Awgu, in the Awgu Local Government Area of the state, said his daughter a teenager, was arrested on March 14, following a complaint by one Mr. Ndubuisi Michael who operates POS (Point of Sale) at Orie Awgu whom she worked for that she stole his money.

His petition reads in parts: “We asked her to quit the job because her employer didn’t keep to the agreed salary payment of N10,000 every month. So, she quit and a few days later, Ndubuisi reported her to the police, claiming she stole over N2 million from him.”
