Dr. Chika Ezeugwu, a postdoctoral fellow in the Mind, Brain and Behaviour (MBB) Interfaculty Initiative at Harvard University, United States of America, no doubt, is making Nigeria proud. He is distinguished as the first Nigerian to hold this prestigious fellowship. A native of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, Ezeugwu’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Psychology from Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria.
After his first degree, Ezeugwu was a member of the Lagos Business School Management Scholar Academy, where his curiosity for applied research was bolstered by intellectual engagements. He has not relented in his rigorous pursuit for knowledge. His unquenchable thirst for answers has seen him furthered in his studies at the prestigious University of Cambridge, where he obtained his second degree in Psychology and Education, and third degree, PhD, in Developmental Cognitive Psychology, in 2020 and 2024, respectively.
In his role at Harvard MBB, Ezeugwu is part of a team of scholars focused on unraveling the complex interaction between the nervous system and human behaviour. Specifically, Ezeugwu’s interests cuts across the intersection between culture and cognition, which underscores his empirical research. The MBB community draws broadly from all the schools at Harvard University to bring together scholars with a common commitment both to empirical research and multidisciplinary dialogue.
Beyond his current engagement as a Harvard MBB fellow, Dr. Ezeugwu holds a senior research consultant position at MRL Public Sector Consultants Limited, where he has been leading research projects focusing on public sector educational policy analysis and reforms in Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria. His work in this area reflects his broader interests and commitment to solving real-world problems, especially within the African context.
He has impressive records of teaching and academic leadership. He has supervised both undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Cambridge, where he also facilitated sessions in cognitive and developmental psychology. He was also a visiting lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, where he conducted courses in research methods and data analysis for social sciences.
In recognition of his academic and research excellence, Ezeugwu has been the recipient of several prestigious grants, including the 2024/2025 Cognitive Science Society Grant. He still demonstrates active engagement with global academic community through his numerous publications and conference presentations.
His leadership extends beyond academia. He co-convened the African Student Cambridge Union (ASCU) mentorship programme at the University of Cambridge, designed to guide underrepresented applicants to Oxbridge institutions. His research contributions also include a report on the impact of COVID-19 on the BAME community in the UK, submitted to the United Kingdom Parliament.
He is an active member of professional organisations including the African Brain and Cognitive Development Network; American Psychological Association; British Psychological Society; British Educational Research Association; Cognitive Development Society; and Nigerian Psychological Association.
Dr. Ezeugwu continues to contribute to global dialogue on research and practice. His academic career is complemented by a passion for piano, strategic thinking, and occasional footballing. He proudly calls himself a Nigerian.
