Enugu: 4 killed, property burnt as 2 villages clash over property

Four people have been killed and property burnt following a communal clash between two villages in Ezeagu Local Governments of Enugu State.

The communal clash, said to be a result of a land ownership dispute which occured between Oyofo and Awha villages on Friday, left four persons (males) dead, one tricycle and five motorcycles, burnt.

Confirming the incident Sunday morning, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe (DSP), said 12 persons have already been arrested in connection with the clash and the killings.

He also said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of Police Operatives to affected villages to restore peace.

Ndukwe said in a statement, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has ordered the deployment of Police Operatives to Oyofo and Awha villages in Ezeagu Local Government Area, following the communal clash between the villages on 11/08/2023 at about 10 am.

“The deployment is to maintain the normalcy already restored in the area after the clash, which led to the murder of four males and the burning of one tricycle and five motorcycles.
“Twelve male suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash and murder of the victims, while preliminary investigation shows that the clash is a result of a land ownership dispute between the villages.”

The police spokesman promised to communicate further developments on the incident.
