Enugu 2027: Obetta wins APC House of Reps ticket

The member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chidi Obetta, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to recontest for the federal constituency in the 2027 election.

Announcing the result of the primary election on Saturday at Government Field, Nsukka, Mr Omeje Ejiofor, the Returning Officer for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South APC primary election, said that Hon. Silas Agbara and Hon. Chidi Obetta were the two aspirants who contested the election.

Omeje said Agbara scored 622 votes while Obetta scored 35,076 votes to emerge victorious.

“As the Chairman of the APC Committee Primary Election for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, I hereby declare Obetta the winner of the primary election, having scored the highest votes and satisfied all requirements. He is hereby declared the candidate of the APC in the constituency for the 2027 general elections.

“I thank all APC members in Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency for ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election,” he said.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South Local Government Areas, Chief Jude Asogwa and Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze respectively, commended the peaceful conduct of the primary election and acknowledged the notable turnout of party members.

While extending congratulations to the victorious candidate, they emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and unity among party members to ensure that all candidates representing the party secure victory in the forthcoming general elections.

The council chairmen described the primary election as transparent, credible, free and fair as Option A4 was used to conduct the election.

In his acceptance speech, Obetta, who scored 35,076 votes to emerge victorious, thanked President Bola Tinubu for always ensuring internal democracy in the party nationally and Governor Peter Mbah for ensuring internal democracy in all party activities in Enugu State.

“I commend President Tinubu and Gov Mbah for ensuring internal democracy as well as commend them for their numerous achievements in the country and in Enugu State.

“I say big thank you to all party faithful in the constituency for this confidence and trust they have in me and I promise that their trust and confidence would not be taken for granted.

“This mandate would enable me to continue to give purposeful, democracy-dividend-loaded and effective representation to the people of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly,” he said.
