Eno orders residents of Uyo ravine to quit for reclamation works

From Isaac Job,Uyo
Akwa Ibom state governor Pastor Umo Eno has ordered families living  around Uyo ravine areas to relocate immediately for ongoing work at Uyo -Ewet gully erosion reclamation and beautification projects.
Eno also ordered for demolition of structures within the project area as the contracting firm confirmed that phase one which is the construction of recreational park has reached advanced stage.
Eno who paid unscheduled visit to the project site directed the Commissioner for Lands, Capt Iniobong Ekong to ensure immediate relocation of the residents to enhance smooth implementation of the project plan.
He noted that beyond tackling  major gully erosion in the area through  reclamation work at the once inaccessible and life-threatening ravine, government aims at creating wealth out of the waste.
Eno said the trees and forest within the area should be pruned to create the desired scenic atmosphere.
He expressed delight at the pace of work now at  advanced stage and assured that when completed,  children and their parents, from within and outside the State,  will have a good facility for relaxation.
Giving an insight into the project, Managing Director of the contracting firm, Bulletine Construction Company Limited, Chief Faysal Harb, noted that phase one of the recreational park,
comprising of  a golf course, football pitch, lawn tennis court, basketball, volleyball, and Clchildren playground, among others, is taking shape.
Eno during the first visit  to the  site some months ago, the Udo Inwang Street axis of the site was completely collapsed at the Etim Okon Usanga intersection and  had assured that upon completion, the  hitherto dangerous ravine will be converted to a recreational facility that will be a tourists’ delight.
