Akwa Ibom state governor Pastor Umo Eno has completed and commissioned General Hospital project in Ukanafun local government area which was abandoned for 20 years by successive administrations in the state
The hospital becomes the first functional medical facility in the local government area which was created in 1976.
Daily Sun gathered that successive administration in the state initiated the hospital project but contractors escaped after tipping sand at the site leaving the hospital uncomplicated in the past 20 years.
According to sources in the area
the hospital project began in 2009 as a cottage hospital but was abandoned for years until Governor Eno revived, rebuilt, and completed and commissioned at the weekend.
The hospital has access and internal roads network and eased the longstanding difficulty experienced by residents in accessing medical services.
Eno while addressing a large and jubilant crowd in the community , expressed gratitude for their consistent support to government despite lack of health facility for many years .
He announced approval for the completion of Inen Ekeffe road construction project in the neighbouring local government and directed the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga to mobilize to the site immediately.
Eno reiterated his commitment to completing abandoned but impactful projects and approved installation of an MRI machine and dialysis units at the new hospital to enhance kidney care services.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ukanafun LGA, Prince Uyo Ukpanah, described the hospital as a restoration of pride and dignity for the area.
“He thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise and pledged Ukanafun’s unwavering support ahead of 2027.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, recalled that the hospital project was abandoned after its initiation in 2009 until Governor Eno intervened.
He listed achievements under the Health Emergency Programme to include construction of 18 new staff apartments aimed at improving personnel retention and hospital efficiency.
Responding, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, outlined details of the newly completed access road for the hospital project, while the pioneer Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ekerette Sunday Dan, promised to maintain high medical standards and ensure efficient service delivery.
The Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun, Akuku (Engr.) Amos Daniel Akpan, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor and conferred on him the traditional title of “Ette Nchóñg Idem” (Father of Good Health) for bringing transformative development to the area.
