Eno approves N2.5bn worth of palm seedlings to farmers, set to commission 55 projects in May

Akwa Ibom state governor pastor Umo has approved N2.5bn for procurement of 620 palm oil seedlings to be  distributed  to farmers across 31 local government areas in the state. 

Eno who confirmed  the approval during project delivery meeting held at banquet hall, Government House Uyo also disclosed that 55 projects would be commissioned in May to mark 3 years anniversary in office .

In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information Hon Aniekan Umanah and made available to Journalists in Uyo, Eno would inaugurate 10 roads in May  spanning 58.5km out of over 1300km of road project across the state .

” Following a presentation by the Agriculture and Food Security Committee, the Govemor approved the sum of ₦2.5 billion for the procurement of over 620,000 palm seedlings for distribution to registered farmers across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State” .

Umanah said the palm seedlings initiative is part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and economic growth adding that a formal launch of the programme will be held at a later date.

He said the delivery meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to timely project delivery and sustainable development.

Umanah explained. that Eno reviewed 55 projects and stated timelines as well as commissioning dates

” A total of 55 projects were reviewed during the meeting, with clear timelines and commissioning dates established.

” The projects reviewed included; the Governor’s Office Annex, AKWA-GIS House, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hotel, Itam Industrial Park, International Market, Ikot Ekpene; Rehabilitation of AKADEP Head Office, Youth Friendly Centres, Arise Palm Resort, One Project Per LGA (Phase 2), Judiciary Village, Chairman’s Lodge, 350 Bed International Hospital, Tree Crop Revolution, Security and Command Center, AKBC House, Court of Appeal Complex, key airport infrastructure projects, Ibom farms, Arise Shopping City, Agric Equipment Leasing Company, and Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.

“Other Projects included; Oron Maritime Infrastructure, Ibom City Bus Service, Multiple General Hospitals, AKICORP House, Agricultural initiatives, security infrastructure, and major housing developments across the state”.

He said pastor Umo Eno addressed the present power situation in the state with strong promise to improve through power sector reforms .

“The Governor also addressed the state’s electricity situation, outlining ongoing reforms and clear roadmaps for Akwa Ibom State to take ownership of its power market.

” He noted that the current power situation is as a result of low power generation across the country, and assured that government is engaging relevant power stakeholders towards improved supply in the State” .

Umanah said governor Umo Eno appealed to various government ministries and Department to collaborate to ensure service delivery to the people.

” Governor Umo Eno emphasized  the need for stronger collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies to drive greater output and ensure efficient service delivery and directed the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to drive the completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres.”
