A coalition of right groups has unveiled a new platform, Joint Action Against Police Violence (JAPOV), combat police violence in Nigeria and to commemorate third year anniversary of EndSAR.
The right groups namely Connect Hub NG, Hope Behind Bars Africa, Headfort Foundation, Citizens Gavel, and The Foundation for Public Interest Law and Development (The Pro Bono Centre), united in their commitment to address the pressing issue of police brutality and human rights violations within Nigeria.
Oluyemi Orija, a representative of JAPOV while speaking at the unveiling of the new platform, said the right groups came together because they believed that through strategic collaboration and collective action, they can create a safer and more just society for all Nigerians.
He said: “With a focus on strategic litigation, policy advocacy, and community empowerment, JAPOV aims to create a unified front to specifically target police violence and wrongful incarcerations.
“At the heart of JAPOV’s mission is the JAPOV Fund, a dedicated resource pool aimed at addressing issues related to police violence, human rights violations, and prison reforms.
This fund provides financial support to organizations and projects dedicated to promoting human rights and seeking justice.
“The launch of JAPOV marks the beginning of a significant journey toward a safer and more just society. We invite all civic society organizations, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and relevant stakeholders to stand with us and support our mission to combat police violence and promote human rights in Nigeria. Your contributions can make a significant impact on our efforts”.
