Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu has emerged victorious in the senatorial primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra South Senatorial District after polling a massive 27,389 votes in the exercise conducted on Saturday.
The cumulative result was officially announced in Nnewi by the Anambra South returning officer, Prof. Solo Chukwudabelu, following the conclusion of the party’s primary election ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
According to the results released:
Emmanuel Nwachukwu — 27,389 votes
Patrick Ubajiaka — 5,279 votes
Akai Egwuowu — 1,757 votes
Following the collation, Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu was declared the winner after securing the highest number of valid votes cast.
The primary election forms part of the statewide APGA primaries conducted on 23 May 2026 to elect candidates for Senate, House of Representatives, governorship and State House of Assembly positions ahead of the deadline stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu was first elected into the Senate during the August 2025 by-election conducted following the death of former Anambra South senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in July 2024.

The by-election, held on 16 August 2025, was contested by 12 political parties, with Nwachukwu emerging victorious.
Reacting to the outcome of the primary election, Anambra South stakeholder Hon. Prince Charles Odimba (Chibuzor) described the victory as a confirmation of Senator Nwachukwu’s growing acceptance among the people.
According to him, “Today’s victory is not just a political achievement but a reflection of credibility, consistency, integrity, grassroots connection, and years of impactful leadership.
“The people have once again demonstrated that true leadership is always recognised, appreciated, and rewarded.”
He further stated that Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu Onodugo has continued to distinguish himself through humility, compassion, accessibility and commitment to youth empowerment, community development and human capital growth across Anambra South.
Odimba noted that the outcome of the primary election showed clearly that the people of the district believe in purposeful leadership, effective representation and a leader whose integrity and credibility continue to inspire hope among the electorate.
“The Onodugo movement keeps growing stronger because it is built on trust, service, peace, loyalty and genuine love for the people. Anambra South has spoken loudly and clearly,” he added.
