After three decades of meritorious international service across 21 countries, Professor Uchenna Konjo Emelonye has officially unveiled his development pact with the people of Ideato North/South Federal Constituency.
Professor Emelonye, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections, is leveraging his vast global experience to seek the mandate of his people in the National Assembly.
Tagged: ‘The IDEATO COVENANT,’ the manifesto outlines eight core pillars that will drive his legislative representation in Abuja.
In a statement accompanying the document released to the media, Prof. Emelonye noted: “I bring home a unique blend of international networks and diplomatic exposure to serve Ndi Ideato through the following covenants.”
The eight pillars of The Ideato Covenant include:
1. Leadership Through Sacrifice (“60/40” Formula). “Leadership must cost the leader something. I commit to returning 60% of my personal emoluments as a Member of the House of Representatives directly to the people of Ideato through transparent, independently verifiable interventions, while retaining only 40% for personal use.
2. Education and Primary Healthcare First: “ Through the newly envisioned Ideato Trust Fund, we will sponsor Junior and Senior WAEC fees for students in government secondary schools across Ideato, easing the financial burden on parents. Additionally, I will prioritise revitalising the 27 Primary Health Centres across our constituency, focusing heavily on maternal and child healthcare, staffing, essential medicines, and immunisation.
3. Empowerment Over Dependency: “To ensure absolute transparency, 100% of constituency funds attracted to Ideato will be publicly accounted for. Resources will be deployed to create sustainable skills, jobs, and economic opportunities rather than fostering dependency through political tokenism. Our youths deserve fishing nets to secure their future, not just fish.
4. Accountability Without Exception: “We will establish periodic constituency accountability reports, public project scrutiny, and participatory monitoring of public resources. The people of Ideato have a right to know how their resources are utilised and how their representative votes on critical issues in the Green Chamber.
5. Representation Beyond Rhetoric:
“I will provide active legislative leadership and robust oversight to ensure Ideato’s voice commands respect in Abuja. My performance will be measured by laws influenced and tangible opportunities attracted, not by political theatrics. Furthermore, a deliberate gender and social inclusion lens will guide my work so that women, youths, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable groups are never left behind.
6. Diplomacy Over Division:
“Effective representation requires the ability to negotiate, persuade, build alliances, and secure beneficial outcomes. Drawing on my diplomatic background, international networks, and over three decades of personal and family ties to Nigeria’s North Central region, I will work to position Ideato at the center of national conversations, partnerships, and investments.
7. Open Government and Continuous Engagement:
“Representation must not begin and end with elections. We will institute regular town halls, maintain continuous engagement with stakeholders, and run an accessible constituency office that treats citizens as true partners in governance.
8. God Above Politics:
“This covenant is made in the fear of God, recognising that public office is a sacred trust. This is my solemn pledge to Ndi Ideato. It is not designed to seek personal greatness, but to use public office to advance the greatness of our people. May God be our witness as we work together to build a stronger, more prosperous, and more united Ideato”.
