As tongues continue to wag over the legality of nominating Dr Yemi Cardoso, as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with Mr Godwin Emefiele, still on suspension, Daily Sun has learnt that the latter has officially resigned his appointment. This makes the recent nominations valid.

According to sources, Emefiele resigned in August following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu on June 9.

He was directed to immediately hand over to Mr Folashodun Shonubi, the Deputy Governor, Operations.

Emefiele was later docked and currently with the Department of State Services (DSS).

In the midst of his legal travails and investigation of the apex bank by Jim Obazee-led special panel, it was gathered the Emefiele initially presented his letter of resignation to DSS, but the secret police refused on the grounds that such letters are meant to addressed directly to the presidency.

Sources said  Emefiele succeeded in submitting his resignation letter directly to presidency.
