Electricity has been restored to Bekwarra Local Government Area in Cross River State after a decade-long power outage, bringing relief to residents.
The Executive Chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Theresa Ushie, announced the development in a statement, praising Governor Bassey Otu for his role in the achievement.
Ushie described the restoration as “a historic milestone” and a testament to Otu’s commitment to prioritising the people’s needs. “For over a decade, the good people of Bekwarra have endured darkness—not just the physical kind, but economic setbacks and stunted community development caused by the absence of electricity. Today, we celebrate a new dawn,” she said.
The chairman highlighted the broader impact of the project, noting that it restores hope, empowers small businesses, enhances security, and supports industrial and digital growth in the area. She also commended Otu’s focus on infrastructure development across the Northern Senatorial District.
Ushie urged Bekwarra residents to support the state government’s initiatives. “On behalf of the entire Bekwarra people—our traditional rulers, youth, women, and elders—I say thank you, Your Excellency. You have written your name in gold in the hearts of our people,” she added.
This restoration is part of Governor Otu’s broader rural electrification and infrastructure revitalisation agenda for Cross River State.
