The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 persons suspected to be involved in electoral violence and other crimes during the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday .
Lagos State Police Publlic Relations officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the figure of arrest might increase as the command was still collating the number of suspects arrested in different divisons during the Saturday exercise.
“Collation of suspects arrested ongoing. 23 suspects at last count,” he said.
Gunmen had attacked some polling units and disrupted the election process in Mafoluku, Oshodi, and burnt ballot papers, ballot boxes and sack the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff, forcing electorates to scamper for safety.
The police were able to rescue the INEC who were later taken to the state command Headquarters for safety.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, told newsmen on Saturday that there were pocket of violence in some parts of the state.
Owohunwa said that some persons were arrested, noting that the people arrested would face prosecution .
