Election: International Group urges INEC to be fair to all political parties

The Executive Director, International Organization for Peace Building and Social Justice (PSJ), Ishaya Durkwa has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be fair to all political parties involved in the Saturday Presidential elections.

He urged INEC to ensure that the observations raised by Nigerians on disenfranchisement of citizens are address squarely to ensure justice for all eligible voters and political parties.

Durkwa disclosed this yesterday in Jos during a press briefing and appealed to Nigerians to remained peaceful after the declaration of the election result.

He noted that over 3000 persons were disenfranchised at ECWA Staff School, GSS Naraguta and most parts of Jos North Local Government Area as they were not allowed to exercise their franchise.

He urged INEC to avoid anything that will ignite violence in the country, saying Nigeria has been a killing filed where over 27 million people have perished through different clashes.

Durkwa called on General Abdulsalam Abubakar peace committee to intensify work and ensure peace after the declaration of the presidential result.

“We are all working for peace and it is very important that INEC pay attention to some of the issues raised by the people that has the potency of disrupting the current peace. I call on INEC to ensure that nobody is disenfranchised, nobody is short change and it is important that our stakeholders and leaders to step in and address the issues, this is the only way to sustain peace.

“We want INEC to ensure that whoever wins should be declare the winner, we want INEC to know that the world is watching what is happening in Nigeria.” He stated.

The Project Manager International Organization for Peace Building and Social Justice (PSJ), Sam Odey said the election has being going on peacefully in most parts of the country, apart from some few incidences.

He admonished Nigerians to sustain the current peace after the declaration of the Nigeria.

Odey urged the INEC chairman to ensure that the right thing is done so that peace the current peace would be sustained.
