El-Rufai: Protest rocks EFCC office following ex-governor’s arrival

Protest rocks EFCC office over El-Rufai

The arrival of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja sparked a protest on Monday.

El-Rufai arrived at the EFCC office amid investigations over alleged corruption during his tenure in office.

His supporters converged at the junction leading to the commission, resulting in tension as security stopped the protesters from entering the premises.

El-Rufai’s supporters were heard chanting slogans and holding placards with inscriptions such as “El-Rufai is a citizen, not a subject” and “We stand with El-Rufai. We stand for law.”

In a video posted online, the supporters alleged that they were dispersed by the EFCC with the use of teargas, while those against the former governor were allowed to assemble nearby.

Those on the opposing side wielded banners reading “El-Rufai cannot hide behind politics, let the law catch up” and smaller placards urging, “Answer the charge, El-Rufai.”

Protest against El-Rufai

El-Rufai’s criticism of the Bola Tinubu administration has led to a standoff between him and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nihu Ribadu.

The former governor alleges that the office of the NSA procured a toxic chemical, which he requests should be explained.

The presidency has accused El-Rufai of playing games with his latest claim.
